Tasting: Essenza Di Vita Pinot Grigio

Image
Essenza Di Vita's Pinot Grigio Name: Essenza Di Vita Pinot Grigio  Variety:  Pinot Grigio            Country: Italy Region:  Delle Venezie  Vintage Year:  2019 Price:  $7.99 Critic Review: " Tropical nose of unripened guava and green mango. Grapefruit tongue with an aftertaste of grass. Surprisingly complex." - Michael Bertino on Vivono  Wine Folly:   According to Wine Folly, expected fruit flavors of Pinot Grigio are white peach, lemon zest, and  cantalope. Essenza Di Vita's Pinot Grigio tastes like a lemon zest explosion. There was also a hint of white peach, but the citrus flavor of the wine took dominated. The wine had a lighter body and high acidity.  My Review:   I enjoyed Essenza Di Vita's Pinot Grigio. I detected floral aromas after swirling and found that it was a little sweeter than typical Pinots. This Pinot Grigio was a little more acidic than I prefer, but I still enjoyed the flavor, ...

Wine Dinner

Image
WINE DINNER BLOG REPORT Three wines : Fetzer's Gewurztraminer , Campo Viejo's Rosé , Yellow Tail's Sauvignon Blanc - Gewurztraminer : After swirling and sniffing, I detected floral aromas immediately. It also smelled fruity, but I could not point out which fruits they were. Upon my first sips of this wine, I thought "this is very smooth." The Gewurztraminer was not dry at all, and actually had a tiny bit of carbonation. It had a light bubbly sensation in my mouth. When tasting the wine, I detected apple and apricot flavors. I am not a fan of wines that lean towards the sweet side, but I was surprisingly pleased by this one.  - Rosé : Right after opening the cap of the rosé, I detected floral aromas. The rosé smelled like a small bouquet of flowers. I don't know what I was expecting from this rosé, but I was surprised when I tasted it and realized how dry it was. It is probably the driest rosé I've ever had. Regarding flavors, I was able to detect strong ...

Tasting: The Collection Sparkling Rosé

Image
The Collection's Sparkling Rosé Name:  T he Collection's Sparkling Rosé  Variety:  Rosé                            Country:  Italy Region:  N/A Vintage Year:  non-vintage Price: $8.99                   Critic Review:  " This Rosé is a on the sweeter side, but I still really enjoyed it. I normally prefer the driest rosé available, but someone had brought this over and I was pleasantly surprised. It's doesn't taste sweet just to be sweet. It's balanced and enjoyable. Would buy for myself."  - Rachael Morokoff on Vivino Wine Folly:  According to Wine Folly, "The primary flavors of rosé wine are red fruit, flowers, citrus, and melon, with a pleasant crunchy green flavor on the finish similar to celery or rhubarb." I immediately noted citrus and floral flavors in this sparkling rosé. I did not...

Tasting: Burlwood Pinot Noir

Image
Burlwood's Pinot Noir Name: Burlwood Pinot Noir                   Variety: Pinot Noir Country:  USA Region:  California Vintage Year:  2019 Price:  $4.99 Critic Review: " This pinot has a lot of bright cherry flavor to it, also some plum, and I also detected strawberry. With a good hint of smokiness in the wine also. After it was exposed to air for awhile, I tasted and sniffed what I thought were some notes of blackberry as well." - Sipping Sentiments - A Wino's Blog Wine Folly:  Wine Folly indicates flavors of cherry, allspice, rasberry, darjeeling tea, and vanilla in California Pinot Noir. I honestly have no clue what darjeeling tea is, but I definitely tasted strong cherry and allspice flavors upon my first sip of this wine. The wine was also semi-dry and had a medium body, as expected after reading Wine Folly. My Review:  This is the first Pinot Noir I have ever drank, so I cannot really comp...

Tasting: Chloe Pinot Grigio

Image
Chloe's Pinot Grigio Name: Chloe Pinot Grigio               Variety: Pinot Grigio Country:  Italy Region : Valdadige D.O.C. Vintage Year:  2019 Price:  $12.99 Critic Review : " White peach and Meyer lemon, hint of mushroom, lime and stone. Light, value, good to keep on hand. Nothing controversial. Nice and relaxing." - Amy Hodge on Vivino Wine Folly:   According to Wine Folly, I am expected to taste white peach, zesty lemon, cantalope, raw almond, or crushed gravel. However, I was unable to taste these flavors except for a hint of lemon. The dryness of this wine matches the medium dryness of the dryness scale of Wine Folly.  My Review:   I did not like Chloe's Pinot Grigio. It tasted watered down and was close to flavorless. The wine reminded me of alcohol mixed with water. There were slight hints of fruit, but not enough to add notable flavors or scents. I would not purchase this again.

Tasting: Elementalist Pinot Grigio

Elementalist's Pinot Grigio Name: Elementalist Pinot Grigio               Variety: Pinot Grigio                     Country:  USA Region: California Vintage Year:  2019 Price:  $6.99 Critic Review: " Taking a sip reveals a crisp, fruity, flavorful wine - there's nothing not to like here! With a lively mouthfeel and nice balance this is quite good at this low price. It features similar flavors to the nose but they are more tart in the mouth and there's a bit of added tropical fruit. This one makes a great warm weather sipper!" - Jon Thorsen, Reverse Wine Snob Wine Folly:  Upon my first sips of this pinot grigio, I tasted white peach, cantalope, and some lemon as Wine Folly states. There was also a medium level of dryness and medium-high acidity.  My Review:  Elementalist's Pinot Grigio might be my favorite white wine I've tasted yet. From the first sip ...

Tasting: Villa Sonia Pinot Grigio

Image
Villa Sonia's Pinot Grigio Name : Villa Sonia Pinot Grigio       Variety:  Pinot Grigio Country: Italy Region:  Venice Vintage Year: 2019 Price:  $5.99 Critic Review: " Honestly the smoothest pinot grigio I've ever drank. Very soft. Faint pear nose. Mild lemon and stone with an aftertaste of lilac. Very light texture. Easily drinkable but I prefer a bit more flavor."          - Michael Bertino on Vivino  Wine Folly:  I did not taste flavors of white peach, cantalope, or crushed gravel as Wine Folly listed. Like many pinot grigios, I was able to taste citric flavors (lemon zest).  My Review: Villa Sonia's Pinot Grigio was smooth, but tasted watered down. I enjoyed its floral, fruity aromas, but was barely able to taste them. I agree wtih Mr. Bertino that the wine could use more flavor. I would not purchase this wine again, but I will admit                 ...

Mezzacorona's Pinot Grigio Name: Mezzacorona Pinot Grigio       Variety: Pinot Grigio Country:  Italy Region:  Trentino Vintage Year:  2019 Price:  $6.99 Critic Review : "One of the best value whites coming out of Italy, this enjoyable wine has aromas of spring blossom and white stone fruit. Crisp and savory, the fresh palate offers yellow pear and juicy citrus before a hint of white almond signals the close." - Wine.com Wine Folly: I immediately tasted lemon zest followed by a raw almond taste in my first sips of the wine. I was able to taste subtle hints of white peach as well.  My Review:  Mezzacorona's Pinot Grigio is probably my favorite Pinot Grigio out of all the ones I have tried. It was smooth and had a great balance of sugars and acids. The light dryness of the wine was also perfect for my palate. I will be purchasing a few of these bottles the next time I go to               ...
